[FFVII] part 2

So now that Cloud is back up on his feet he's suddenly found himself in a new career as a bodyguard. Not his usual bag, but hey at least the pay is good - the sweet young girl says she'll 'Go out with [him] once.'

Managing to escape from the evil Turks and then waiting for his charge to catch up with him, she's slow when she runs, but as mentioned she's cute so he'll let this slide, Cloud and Aeris sit themselves down in a playground and discuss the facts of life. More specifically hers and the fact that her new bodyguard reminds her of her ex-boyfriend, a former member of SOLDIER. Thats right kids, this young lady is trouble... but she's pretty (isn't it always the case?).

For a moment, Cloud regains his sanity and tries to send her home - this after a failed attempt earlier, he really should just give up and realise that its not going to work - but its not to be and the two rush off to find out what's up with Tifa riding the back of a Chocobo pulled carriage wearing a slinky outfit.

Turns out Barret and Tifa were investigating Don Corneo and trying to hit him up for information. However the first order of business is to 'rescue' Tifa, and of course risk blowing her cover.

How does an elite member of one the most prolific fighting forces on The Planet rescue the girl? Guns blazing, swords swinging? Oh no, its far more hardcore than that... Aeris comes up with the only possible solution: Cloud will clearly have to dress as a girl to get inside the Don's home. Its the only way to get passed the 5 drunken lackeys to the big fat Don.

Of course Aeris plan works - why wouldn't it? it's perfection - and the three girls...ahem, Cloud and the two girls, confront the big guy and threaten to remove a certain part of his anatomy if he doesn't give them the information they wanted to know (thats right boys and girls, this game was aged 11+ so no holds barred!). The Don spills the beans and like all good super-villains waits for them all to stand on his trapdoor before expelling them from his home the hard way into the sewers.

Final Fantasy VII - Restart

That's right, I've restarted FFVII too.

One of the best games ever created for use on a Sony console is also one of the biggest time consumers. You just don't realise how long you play for, and as a game originally on three discs it is exceptional in its longevity.

Poor Cloud. All he wants to do is to make a bit of quick cash and he gets his band of freedom fighting mercs all attached to him. Barret, Biggs, Wedge and Jesse of Avalanche just wont let him keep to his own devices, they jabber away about how he has to help them save the planet. You might think that he's hard enough to deal with this - being a former member of the elite fighters known as SOLDIER, but then they have their secret weapon - his childhood friend (and potential sweetheart) Tifa Lockheart. Such emotional ties aren't good for business ;)

So, Cloud is busy trying to prove that he's not the bleeding heart they all seem to want him to be, but then he gets separated from the group, and falls through the roof of a particularly flimsy church, landing on some particularly resilient flowers.
This would be the part in the story where you say, well if Tifa's not the love interest he's very lucky and may be able to become the badass he wants to be. Of course, he's landed at the feet of a girl. A pretty little young thing named Aeris (or Aerith - but then who is Cloud to judge about names and identities? More on that later!) who has, shall we say issues. The most immediate of which is that she is being hunted by the Turks (not the whole nation from Earth, a group of dirty deed do-ers, Mafia style if you will).

More as the story unfolds on the playstation, as its been a while ;)

Final Fantasy VIII

So FFVIII comes to the Playstation 3 and after the excitement of VII's return this was, needless to say, a very happy day. Not only that but it did something spectacular - it made me want to play it again.

Not that the game wasn't fun initially but it just wasn't right in its timing before. By which I mean that I had both VII and X to play at the same time, both of which are exceptional games. So my playstation now sports the game in its entirety and I intend to complete it this time.

The opening sequence of the game - for those who haven't seen it or are feeling nostalgic - was exquisite on the ps2. From the water making its way up the beach, to the 'training' fight between Squall and Seifer, everything about it said that this was a game with attention to both detail and story. A friend of mine adores the game and because of her I *will* play it from start to finish.

More updates will follow on this, but right now, I'm rather excited by this fact.
